a daughter's knight out

GRANDVILLE—Fair maidens, knights and an evening of medieval regalia and song gave men at Resurrection Life Church an opportunity to treat their daughters like princesses at the first Daughter’s Knight Out.

dko_image_1Decorated with shields and banners and guarded by costumed knights, the Ground Floor became a great hall of fine dining for the 190 people who feasted at round tables and listened to an live mix of piano-driven music for the soul of princess and knight alike. More than dinner and a song, this event gave fathers the opportunity to spend a special evening out with their daughters and grow their father/daughter relationship.

dko_image_2“We had a blast,” Joe Burzynski said of spending the evening with his daughter. “It just opened more conversation.” Burzynski said that after they left the event he and his daughter stayed up late talking and the next day he found a note from her about how much she enjoyed the time together.

Ranging from early teens to adults, daughters joined their fathers for this evening of food and listened to the musical talents of recording artist Sarah Scharbrough and band.

dko_image_3“We enjoyed ourselves the whole night,” 17-year-old Courtney Narvaiz said of spending the evening with her father, Paul. Courtney said the variety of ages of people who attended, the music and the environment combined to make a wonderful evening spent with her dad.

“We enjoyed the music; the food was awesome,” she said. “We enjoyed everything.”

Pastor Todd Staal said this evening was a great success because it brought fathers and daughters together. “It was an atmosphere where fathers and daughters could talk freely,” Staal said. “I saw dads and daughters taking time out of their busy lives for each other.”

This event was organized by the men’s ministry of ResLife and plans are in motion to hold another father and daughter event next year.
